THE 27th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF HONG KONG SOCIETY FOR TRANSPORTATION STUDIES
Established in February 1996, the Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies (HKSTS) aims to foster excellence in transportation research and practice, stimulate professional interchange in transportation, and provide a forum for exchanging ideas on transportation developments.
The theme of the 27th HKSTS Conference is “Transport and Equity”, which aims to call for our attention to transport equity issues and to address the mobility challenges facing marginalised groups in the society, including older people, children, low-income households and disabled persons. As innovation and technology advance in smart cities, new sets of data and analytical methods become readily available for transport research, we can harvest these progresses to reduce the mobility gap between different social strata for a more inclusive society. For details, please visit the conference website at: www.hksts.org/conf.htm

2023 CGA CONFERENCE: FROM GEOSPATIAL RESEARCH TO HEALTH SOLUTIONS
Our understanding of the health of a body has long been linked to ideas about the organization of societies and the planning of cities. New mapping technologies, forms of spatial analysis, and dynamic access to health data have presented researchers with new opportunities to inquire into the various landscapes of health. In this conference, we explore the urgent questions of health that impact our planet, enrolling the latest technologies and techniques for spatial analysis and geographic representation.
Date: Mon – Tue, Mar 20 to Mar 21, 8:30am – 5:10pm
Location: CGIS South S030 (Doris and Ted Lee Gathering Room), 1730 Cambridge St., Cambridge, MA 02138

Symposium on Geospatial Approaches to Pressing Grand Challenges: Global Pandemics, Climate Change, and Food Security
The COVID-19 pandemic and associated control measures have enormous social, economic, and health impacts on human society. While non-pharmaceutical control measures (e.g., travel restrictions and physical distancing) and active strategies (e.g., widespread testing and contact tracing) have mitigated the spread of COVID-19 to some extent, they have also had many limitations. Meanwhile, climate change can also have significant harmful impacts on human health through various pathways (e.g., heatwaves, sea level rises, wildfires, and climate-sensitive infectious diseases). Pandemics and a changing climate have thus emerged as the greatest health risks for humankind in the 21st century. Geospatial perspectives, technologies, and analysis have great potential to increase our capacities in managing the social, economic, and health impacts of future pandemics and public health crises linked to climate change. They can also support the development of effective strategies for enhancing pandemic readiness at a time of climate crisis.

Recruitment participants of the project
The project “Evaluating individual exposure to green/blue spaces and environment in Hong Kong” proposes to recruit about 800 adults aged 18-64 in Hong Kong to participate in exposure surveys and questionnaire interviews. Participants are invited to carry our mobile phones, environmental sensors, and smart wristband to detect the participants’ environmental exposure to pollution and fill out an activity diary. The study will last for 7 days. First of all, participants will complete personal questionnaires, EMA (ecological momentary assessment) questionnaires (3 times/day), and activity travel logs (no need to fill in again after completion) and carry equipment in the first two days, and need to carry a mobile phone and smart wristband and fill out sleep diary in the next five days.
