Prof. Yuanzhi Zhang has taken over the post of director of the Yuen Yuen Satellite Remote Sensing Research Centre

Prof. Yuanzhi Zhang has become the new director of the Yuen Yuen Satellite Remote Sensing Research Centre since December 2006. He was also appointed as the head of the Graduation Division at the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) in February 2007. Prof. Zhang graduated from Changchun College of Geology (now as Jilin University) in 1986. He received his Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Cartography from Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1991, Postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and Geological Survey from International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), the Netherlands in 1997, Doctor of Science in Remote Sensing and GIS from Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), Finland in 2005. He worked as a research assistant at CAS from 1991 to 1996, a research scientist at HUT from 1998-2004, and a senior research scientist at HUT in Finland and at Sherbrooke University in Canada from 2005 to 2006 for conducting the research on remote sensing of water quality monitoring in coastal areas and inland lakes, snow water equivalent estimation in boreal forest areas, environmental and geological issues. In October 2006, he joined ISEIS and started developing various researches of cloud prone and rainy area remote sensing, especially focused on land subsidence, oil spill detection, red tide monitoring, and coastal zone management in Hong Kong and its vicinity.
